A grid of words that cross: some read across, some read down, and wherever a row meets a column they share a square. Choose a line, then guess a word into it. Every square you cover answers about both words running through it, so a guess played across also reports on the down words it crosses — which is why so few guesses go such a long way. Green means the letter belongs in that very square. Yellow means it belongs elsewhere in the across word, red elsewhere in the down word, and orange in both at once. Pale grey means the letter is somewhere on the grid but in neither word through that square, and dark grey means it is nowhere at all. Finishing a word buys more guesses, and a word can finish on its own once the lines crossing it have filled every square.
